SUN Microsystems has partnered with the Bannari Amman Institute of Technology to setup the SUN Centre of Competency (CoC) at the Institute premises with an objective to develop and deploy open-source tools for Education, Research and Industry and to create a talented pool of Engineers in Free and Open-Source Software. SUN CoC provides special structured training and skill development programmes's latest Software Technology at no cost to students, members of faculty and staff. SUN CoC will distinguish Bannari Amman Institute of Technology as being advance in the usage of Information Technology. This centre is equipped with facilities to study and develop Solaris OS, Java, Linux and Grid Computing with a total of 72 SUN cimputers servers and nodes, including Sun Fire V240 servers, Sun ultra 45 worksations, Sun Fire X2100 for grid computing, sun Ray thin clients, Sun Fire 4100 server and Sun Ultra 20 workstations. Two flavours of operating systems are available viz. Linux and Solaris.
