Palm Leaf Reader

The role of the Tamil Palm leaf manuscript in the Tamil language’s literature, grammar, and Cultural aspects has been immense. As the written script of Tamil in these old manuscripts will be different from the current Tamil characters, it’s been difficult to understand and read these scripts. Few scholars can read these manuscripts and transcribe them to the current readable Tamil. Also, they find it a very complicated process as it would take about 6 months to transcribe a single bundle of palm leaves and publish it into a book. With more than 3 lakh Manuscripts that have been preserved and digitized by the government, it’ll be difficult to transcribe every manuscript. Our project focuses on converting ancient Tamil letter styles into contemporary equivalents, catering to the preservation of cultural heritage. The application employs an AI model to map ancient letters to present letter styles, a novel approach to bridge the linguistic and temporal gap.
